Elena Walch Gewurztraminer [2015/2016]
Elena Walch, a former architect, became a wine producer in 1985 after marrying into one of the oldest established wine families in Tramin. She took over two magnificent estates: Castel Ringberg, and Kastelaz, a steep, south-facing hillside which towers above the village centre of Tramin. Not surprisingly, the latter is highly regarded for its white wine made from the Gewürztraminer grape which took its name from the village Tramin. Star Winery - Gambero Rosso (Indicates that the winery has won ten 3 Glass Awards by Gambero Rosso. They are the elite, the aristocracy, in short the very top flight of Italian wine.)
100% Gewürztraminer from Tramin. Shiny yellow in colour. Intensive, concentrated fruit, reminiscent of rose petals and apricots. Nice aromas on the palate, intensive but full of finesse. A spicy white wine, persistent on the finish. Great as a full-flavoured aperitif and as an accompaniment to a range of dishes, including savoury first courses and grilled fish.
